Men try to rob off-duty Macon officer at ATM

A Macon police officer scared off two men when they tried to rob him early Wednesday morning at a Security Bank ATM.

Officer Marshall Durham was off duty at the ATM, located at 3945 Pio Nono Ave., just before 1 a.m. when he was approached by two masked men wearing gloves. One of the men had a handgun, according to a police report.

The men demanded money from Durham at gunpoint. In response, Durham pulled his handgun from his vehicle seat.

The men ran toward Rice Mill Road.

No shots were fired, and no one was injured.
