Jeffersonville enters into consent order with hunting plantation

The city of Jeffersonville has entered into a federal consent order with the owners of a Twiggs County hunting plantation to settle a lawsuit alleging the city violated the federal Clean Water Act, according to federal court records.

U.S. District judge Hugh Lawson signed the order March 17.

In the original complaint filed in June 2009, Duggan Family Partnership alleged pollutants from the city’s wastewater treatment plant contaminated water on the plantation and several waterways. The treatment plant is located on Ga. 96 about a half-mile outside Jeffersonville.

Terms of the consent order require Jeffersonville to take steps to address erosion issues and pay the partnership $10,000.

The city also must shut off spray heads closest to the property although the city can use them as needed. A new flow for runoff water and a series of check dams also must be developed and installed, according to federal records.
