Macon man to serve 22 years for two armed robberies

A 50-year-old Macon man was sentenced Monday to serve 22 years in prison without the possibility of parole in connection with two armed robberies.

Ricky Nell Johnson, of Sunnydale Drive, pleaded guilty to robbing Econo Lodge, 1990 Riverside Drive, on May 13, 2009, and robbing ABC Liquor Store, 1194 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, on May 16, 2009, said Elizabeth Bobbitt, an assistant Bibb County district attorney. The hearing was held in Bibb County Superior Court.

Johnson also must serve eight years on probation following his release from prison, Bobbitt said.

In the liquor store robbery, Johnson was dressed in a ladies wig and skirt when he jumped over the front counter, displaying a gun, and demanded money from a clerk.

He fired one gunshot inside the store, but an employee fought him for the gun, Bobbitt said. As a result, Johnson was shot in the upper thigh near his buttocks.
