Two accused of snatching 63-year-old’s wallet in Centerville

CENTERVILLE — A Byron man and woman are accused of snatching a 63-year-old woman’s wallet earlier this week outside a Centerville gas station.

Matthew Harper, 27, and Christina Marie Batchelor, 20, each were charged with robbery by sudden snatching in the 8:30 p.m. incident Monday outside Fuller’s at Ga. 49 and Gunn Road, said Public Safety Director Anthony B. Cooper.

Harper allegedly snatched the wallet, while Batchelor drove the vehicle the two fled in, Cooper said. The victim was able to capture the tag number on the vehicle that led Centerville police to a Byron address where Harper and Batchelor live, Cooper said.

Cooper advises people to be mindful of their surroundings and keep wallets and purses secure to help reduce the chance of becoming victims.
