Five Eatonton residents have been charged with forgery in what authorities say is a “large-scale counterfeit check ring,” according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
An investigation was launched in July after authorities discovered counterfeit checks were being sent from Orlando, Fla., to a motel in Eatonton where they were distributed to local residents who cashed the checks and kept a percentage of the proceeds, according to a news release.
The remaining proceeds were wired back to Florida. The checks totaled $24,000, according to the release.
Arrested were: Caesar Futch, 30; Leslie Parks, 29; Travis Davis, 17; Tommy Parks, 23; and Lashan Parks, 29. More arrests are expected, according to the release.
