Woman’s death ruled homicide

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Friday the death of a woman whose body was found in the woods in July has been ruled a homicide.

An initial autopsy performed on the remains of Crystal Morgan, 23, of Macon, were inconclusive, but an autopsy performed by the GBI showed Morgan had been strangled to death. Initial reports said there were no obvious signs of wounds or puncture marks.

Morgan’s body was discovered July 29 by a passer-by in the woods near a path off Pio Nono Avenue. The path is across from Bells Terrace and connects Pio Nono with Marigold Avenue.

Authorities reported that Morgan was last seen alive 10 p.m. July 28 at a shopping center at the intersection of Pio Nono and Montpelier avenues, not far from where her body was found.
