Dog death could prompt animal cruelty charge

A small dog was killed Tuesday after its owner unknowingly dragged it behind her car, according to Macon police.

A Dalton Street woman told officers she was flagged down by other motorists between 6 and 7 a.m. while taking her child to school, according to a police report.

When she stopped, the woman saw that her family pet had been tied to a bumper with the chain she ordinarily used to secure him outside. The report did not specify the type of dog.

The woman told police she’d had problems with neighborhood children in the past, but she doesn’t know who tied the dog to her car. Whoever did could face a charge of aggravated animal cruelty, the report said
