Two men may have committed two dozen burglaries across midstate

Middle Georgia law enforcement officers have linked two men to about two dozen burglaries in Monroe, Lamar, Spalding, Pike and Butts counties, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

A man knocked on the front door of a north Monroe County home about 11 a.m. Sept. 23. When he got no immediate response, a second man went to the back of the house and kicked in a dead-bolted back door, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Inside, the homeowner locked herself in a bathroom and hid in a tub behind shower doors as the men ransacked her home.

The men left in a black Dodge Magnum with dark tinted windows. Later, the homeowner met with a GBI forensic artist to develop a composite drawing of one of the men.

Deputies say they think the same two men are responsible for another burglary in north Monroe County on the same morning. They’ve also been linked to between 20 and 24 other burglaries in surrounding counties, according to the release.

Although nothing was taken from the houses in the Monroe County burglaries, other counties have reported that guns were taken.

Deputies urge residents to lock their homes and report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 994-7043.
