FBI releases national, local crime stats

Almost all major crime categories declined nationwide in spite of fears that high unemployment and the economy would fuel criminal activity, according to the FBI’s annual crime report.

Violent crime declined nationwide for the second straight year in 2008.

In Macon, a total of 884 violent crimes were reported in 2008, compared to 732 in 2007, FBI figures show. Nineteen murder/manslaughters were recorded in Macon in 2008, compared to 22 in 2007. There were 370 robberies in 2008, compared to 302 in 2007. Macon also reported 454 aggravated assaults in 2008, compared to 365 aggravated assaults in 2007. Property crimes were 7,758 in 2008, compared to 7,997 in 2007.

In Warner Robins, 333 violent crimes were reported in 2008, compared to 326 in 2007. Warner Robins reported four murder/manslaughters in 2008, compared to three in 2007. Warner Robins had 91 robberies in 2008, compared to 119 in 2007. There were 220 aggravated assaults in 2008, compared to 188 in 2007. Property crimes were 3,805 in 2008, compared to 3,309 in 2007.
