Macon police released July 2009 crime statistics Tuesday, announcing an 11 percent decrease in reported crimes so far this year, compared with the same period in 2008.
Reports of rapes, arsons, burglaries, thefts and auto thefts decreased. Aggravated assaults also decreased by about 30 percent, with 201 reports so far in 2009, compared with 287 in 2008. The number of homicides remained the same.
The number of robberies increased by about 20 percent over 2008 levels. Police have received 220 reports in 2009, compared with 183 in 2008.
