Macon police officer dragged during traffic stop

A Macon police officer was dragged during a traffic stop late Tuesday on Ga. 247.

Sgt. John Ahlvin said the officer was trying to get a nervous driver out of a 1999 white Chevrolet Suburban when the man drove off, pulling the officer along with the vehicle that was headed toward Warner Robins.

As the officer tried to keep him from putting the car in gear, the driver said he was not going back to jail and drove off, Ahlvin said.

The officer was not seriously hurt in the incident, and it was not clear how far he was dragged by the car at about 10:15 p.m..“It all happened so fast,” Ahlvin said.

The driver is being sought on a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer.
