Indictments: Man accused of Bibb stepfather’s death

A Bibb County grand jury indicted a 22-year-old man Tuesday on charges of involuntary manslaughter in the death of his stepfather, according to Bibb County Superior Court records.

Cail Hampton Huggins, of Goodall Mill Road, is accused in the May 17 death of 31-year-old Matthew R. Kersey of Nowell Drive, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told authorities the two men had been in a confrontation hours before Kersey’s death and Huggins allegedly struck Kersey.

Autopsy results indicated that Kersey died from injuries he sustained when he fell after being struck, according to the sheriff’s office.

Huggins was released on $11,100 bond May 22, according to Bibb County jail records.

In a separate case, 25-year-old Jonathan Wayne Hart of Macon was indicted on charges of burglary, entering an automobile, theft by taking and criminal damage to property, according to court records.

Hart, the son of a Bibb County deputy, is accused of burglarizing the home of another Bibb deputy and stealing guns in June, according to the sheriff’s office. He also allegedly stole a Kawasaki Mule utility vehicle.

Hart also was charged with aggravated stalking and simple battery in a second indictment alleging he made “insulting and provoking” contact with a woman and pushed her Jan. 31, according to court records.

He was released on $16,100 bond June 26, according to jail records.
