Macon mother charged with child cruelty in case involving infant

A Macon woman has been charged with child cruelty after her 26-day-old infant was treated for unexplained injuries to the head and face, according to the Macon police.

Heather Gawlick, 21, of Desoto Place, was arrested Monday and is being held on $8,450 bond, according to Bibb County jail records.

Gawlick told police she dropped the child, but waited a couple of days before seeking medical attention, said Sgt. Melanie Hofmann.

The child is listed in stable condition at a local hospital, Hofmann said.

She said the child is in the custody of the state.
