February death of Macon man ruled a homicide

Final autopsy results show a 31-year-old Macon man died of cardiorespiratory complications from a cerebral concussion following a fight near an east Bibb County nightclub in February, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Robert Saxby was found dead in a parking lot in the 3200 block of Jeffersonville Road just before 2 a.m. Feb. 2.

Jones said the autopsy results found Saxby’s death was a homicide.

Bibb County sheriff’s Capt. Mike Smallwood said deputies will meet with the district attorney’s office today to determine whether the case will evolve into a murder investigation.

Deputies were first called to the area near Polly’s Mirage at 1:40 a.m. Feb. 2 in reference to a fight, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Witnesses said a group of as many as eight men attacked Saxby and his friend, 31-year-old Lorenzo Davis, who was hurt, according to the release.
