Members of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 21-year-old Dameon Juan Thorpe, of Warner Robins, this afternoon at a residence in Warner Robins, according to a news release. The Task Force got information on Thorpe’s location from a Macon Regional CrimeStoppers tip.
Chief Tony Cooper of the Centerville police said Thorpe was taken into custody without incident.
Thorpe was initially arrested Sunday and charged with giving a false name to police and filing a false report. When Centerville police officers attempted to arrest Thorpe, he got in a scuffle with officers, Cooper said. One officer sustained a broken finger and a bite mark on his arm, Cooper said.
Thorpe was taken to the Houston Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained in the fight. While there, officers had to release Thorpe from handcuffs so he could be X-rayed. Thorpe made a break for it and had been a fugitive for two days, Cooper said.
Cooper said procedures are being reviewed so that another escape won’t take place.
“It won’t happen again,” Cooper said. “I’ve been in meetings all day about it.”
