Perry gambling machines seized in raid

PERRY — Two people were arrested during a police raid on a Perry business.

Govinder Sinch Kaura, 49, and Harvinder Sing Kaura, 47, clerks at Discount Tobacco, 1307 Ball St., were each charged with commercial gambling, a felony, and keeping a gambling house, a misdemeanor, said Perry police Capt. Heath Dykes.

Police seized six gambling machines and $5,000 in cash in the raid Thursday afternoon, Dykes said.

Businesses are allowed to have the video slot machines as long as winnings are paid out in merchandise, Dykes said.

However, cash payouts are prohibited, he said.
