Macon man indicted, accused of woman's strangling death

A 51-year-old Walnut Street man was indicted Tuesday in the strangling death of a woman on Feb. 21.

Gregory Lamont Allen is charged with murder in the death of 27-year-old Sophia Denmark on Feb. 21, according to court records.

Denmark was found strangled to death at 2127 Walnut St., a small shed-like building behind the Pleasant Hill boarding house where Allen lived at the time of the killing.

Allen told police he was attempting to steal a television from the bedroom of one of Denmark’s two housemates when she came into the small building. Having been caught in the act, he killed her, police said.

Allen is being held at the Bibb County jail without bond, said Lt. George Meadows.
