WARNER ROBINS — Warner Robins police are investigating a shooting early Friday at a Heritage Woods apartment at 731 N. Davis Drive, police said.
Warner Robins police Sgt. Scott McSwain said police responded to a 911 call from a neighbor of the alleged aggravated assault and found Gregory Patrick Simpson, 48, suffering from a single gunshot wound inside his apartment.
Simpson was taken by ambulance to The Medical Center of Central Georgia where he was in critical condition, McSwain said.
Others at Simpson’s apartment told police that the person who allegedly shot Simpson had fled in a sport utility vehicle, the detective said.
The person later was identified as Ricky Charles Ash, 52, of Cochran, McSwain said.
Ash was pulled over near the apartment complex as police were arriving in response to the 911 call, the detective said.
Ash had been shot multiple times and was taken by ambulance to The Houston Medical Center, McSwain said. Ash later was taken by ambulance to The Medical Center where he was in stable condition, he said.
The shooting happened at about 5 a.m.
Preliminary investigation findings are that the men fired on each other, McSwain said.
The motive for why the men exchanged gunfire is not yet known, he said.
