A Milledgeville man suspected of raping a teenage girl was caught in Arkansas on Thursday, officials from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said.
Detective Corey Goble of the sheriff’s office said Norman Terry Miller, of Presser Road in Milledgeville, was arrested by members of the St. Francis, Ark., Sheriff’s Office in Widener, Ark. Goble said extradition proceedings had begun and that Miller should be back in Georgia within a couple of days.
Goble said his office received a complaint Sunday from a 16-year-old girl who said she was raped by Miller. When authorities went to Miller’s residence, he fled on foot. After an extensive manhunt, authorities were unable to locate Miller, who later was able to obtain his own vehicle and escape.
The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force helped in the search for Miller, who was eventually located and detained in Widener. Goble said Miller has an extensive criminal background, though no previous record of sexual assault.
