Suspects identified in credit, debit scheme affecting Macon, Bibb residents

Investigators have identified suspects in a debit card fraud scheme affecting more than two dozen Macon and Bibb County residents.

Unidentified men, last seen in a late model black or dark blue Honda Odyssey minivan, are accused of using residents’ debit card information to withdraw money at ATM locations at bank branches in the north Atlanta area, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

A skimming device recently was recovered at the Raceway gas station on Harrison Road. Investigation shows the men may have used a similar device at another Raceway gas station in Macon and a Murphy USA location, according to the release.

All three gas stations have recently been checked and were found to be free of skimming devices. Criminals place the devices on gas station pumps and when customers swipe their cards, information from the credit and debit cards are recorded.

Anyone with information about the men is asked to call sheriff’s Lt. Paul Edwards at 621-5641 or e-mail at pedwards@co.bibb.ga.us.
