Dublin man sentenced to serve 10 years in armed robbery

A Dublin man was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison followed by five years on probation in connection with the Sept. 24 armed robbery of the Jet Food Store on Claxton Dairy Road in Dublin, according to a district attorney’s office news release.

Derrick Lee Newsome, 20, of Brentwood Drive, pleaded guilty to armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in Laurens County Superior Court on Monday, according to the release.

Newsome robbed the clerk using a handgun. Evidence recovered from his home and vehicle connected him to the crime, according to the release.
