Suspected home invaders got away following an attempted home invasion in the 800 block of Hall Street early Sunday morning, according to the Macon police.
The resident told police he awoke to the sound of loud, rapid knocking at his back door just before 1 a.m., according to a police report released Monday.
When he got to the back door, the robbers kicked it in, according to the report.About the same time, police responded to a complaint of a burglary in process at the house and found the resident at the front of the house yelling, “they’re in the back,” according to the report.
Seconds later, the officers heard a gun shot, according to the police.

Sgt. Melanie Hofmann said the officers were not sure whether the shot was fired in their direction or in connection with the incident.
The intruders ran away and were not apprehended by police, according to the report.
The resident was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia after complaining of chest pain, according to the report.
