Benches, Virgin Mary statue damaged by vandal outside St. Joseph Catholic Church

A vandal damaged two concrete benches and a statue of the virgin Mary outside St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday night, according to the Macon police.

The Rev. Justin Ferguson told police he was watching TV when he heard a noise outside the church, 830 Poplar St., at about 11 p.m., according to a police report released Monday.

Looking out the window, he saw a man walking toward the front of the church and yelling out profanities. After the man left, Ferguson went outside and saw the benches and statue were broken, according to the report.

The man was last seen walking toward New Street.
