Newspaper hawkers robbed at gunpoint

Telegraph newspaper hawkers were robbed at gunpoint Sunday at locations in Bibb County and Macon, according to authorities.

A man selling papers between noon and 1 p.m. near the Wal-Mart on Chambers Road was approached by three men in a gray Ford Taurus, said Lt. George Meadows of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

A gunman got out of the car and robbed the corner salesman, Meadows said.No injuries were reported, and it was unclear how much money was stolen.

Meadows said investigators have identified a possible suspect based on interviews with the victim. Two separate incidents at nearby locations on Newberg Avenue at Pio Nono Avenue and Williamson Road at Bloomfield Road in the city limits were also reported to the sheriff’s office.
