Bank robbers keep Dublin police busy

Dublin police are investigating the second bank robbery in the city in two days.

A man is behind bars at the Laurens County jail in connection with an armed robbery Tuesday at the Bank of Dudley downtown, police said.

He was arrested on Interstate 16 after fleeing the scene shortly after 3 p.m., according to police. The suspect’s name was not released.Detectives interviewed witnesses at the West Jackson Street branch.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Police and FBI also are investigating a Monday morning robbery at the Wachovia Bank at the corner of Hillcrest Parkway and Shamrock Drive.

Authorities are searching for the alleged robber, identified by law enforcement officials as William Leonard Willis, a white male who is about 45 years old. Willis was identified using surveillance video.

He is wanted on charges of robbing four banks in Florida and one in Tifton last Friday.

Willis was last seen traveling in an early 1990s model white Chevy pickup with the word “Sport” on the back fender. The truck has Florida plates.
