Macon food store robbed

A cashier was robbed at gunpoint late Monday at Neal’s Food Store, 1980 Gray Highway, according to a Macon police report.

The clerk was outside of the store at about 11:50 p.m. when a man approached him and forced him to go inside.

Once inside of the store, where another employee was working, the robber displayed a silver handgun, grabbed the clerk by the neck and demanded that he empty a cash register, which was in a room in a separate area of the store, according to authorities.

The robber fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash in a dark-colored Chevrolet Suburban driven by someone else, according to the report. The vehicle had chrome tires and a left rear light that was not working, according to the report.The gunman was dressed in a hooded black jacket with his face covered by a black-and-white scarf, witnesses said.

The clerk, who was not injured, ran from the store to report the incident to a nearby off-duty police officer.

The robbery remains under investigation.
