Jones man faces multiple charges following shooting

A Jones County man was arrested and charged with multiple counts, including two counts of aggravated assault Friday after a shooting at his estranged wife’s home.

At 10:14 a.m., Cliff Pickens, 55, entered his estranged wife’s home at the Emerald Mobile Home Park off Joycliff Road in south Jones County, said Capt. Billy Mitchell of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office. Pickens lives across the street in the same mobile home park, Mitchell said.

“(Pickens) told her he would kill her and her boyfriend who was there,” Mitchell said. “She shoved off of (Pickens) and ran into the bedroom.” Pickens allegedly then shot twice into the bedroom door and fled on foot, Mitchell said. The weapon used was a .22 revolver. “No one was injured,” Mitchell said.

Pickens was captured shortly after the shooting underneath another trailer in the park, he said.

In addition to the assault charges, Pickens was charged with burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is being held at the Jones County jail.
