Man’s fatal shooting in Barnesville possibly drug related

The Friday shooting death of a Barnesville man may have been drug related, according to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.

A neighbor heard a shot at about 6 a.m. and discovered 56-year-old Charles Adams dead on the front porch of his Grove Street home, said Sheriff Larry Walker.

The investigation led deputies to the house of Adams’ neighbor, 28-year-old Ronald Smith. Deputies interviewed Smith and charged him with malice murder Friday afternoon, Walker said.

Walker said deputies believe the killing was drug related.

“We’re not sure what the connection was,” he said, adding deputies are continuing their investigation.

Smith is being held at the Lamar County jail without bond, Walker said.
