A man was shot following an armed robbery Thursday at the Travelodge Hotel, 5000 Harrison Road, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
A 36-year-old man was in a rear stairwell about 5 p.m. when a gunman approached him and demanded his duffle bag, according to the release.
A fight over the bag ensued, and the gunman shot the man in the right arm, authorities said. The attacker made off with the man’s bag, which contained clothing, a watch, a passport, cash and his California driver’s license, according to the release.
Witnesses reported seeing the assailant get into a tan Chrysler or Plymouth sedan with three other passengers and then head north on Harrison Road.

Evidence recovered at the scene and statements from witnesses suggested drug activity might have been a factor in the robbery, according to authorities.
Marijuana and other drug paraphernalia were recovered at the scene, according to the release.
The robbery victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and released.
The incident remains under investigation.
