Dog beaten to death in Macon, police say

A dog was beaten to death Thursday with a shovel-type tool and a chain, according to Macon police.

Officers responded to the 500 block of Melvin Place just before 4 p.m. in reference to a man beating the dog, according to a police report.

The dog was dead when animal control arrived, according to the report.

The items allegedly used to beat the dog were recovered by police.

Police Lt. Eric Walker said the suspect fled the scene. Officers are investigating the incident.
