Macon post office robbed Friday afternoon

Macon police are investigating an armed robbery Friday at a U.S. post office on Pio Nono Avenue. The incident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the midtown location, 1040 Pio Nono Ave., according to authorities.

Two men reportedly held up two postal employees, demanding money from a cash register, after entering the building and ordering everyone inside to get on the floor.

The robbers were described as being black males between 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and approximately 160 to 180 pounds, according to a police news release. They were wearing gray hooded sweatshirts, light blue shirts, blue jeans and black bandanas partially covering their faces.

There were reports following the robbery of two men matching that description entering an older model burgundy Honda with a brown or beige hood on Patterson Street, near the old A.L. Miller High School building on Montpelier Avenue.

U.S. Postal Inspector Yolanda Burns said investigations are also under way by the postal service, and state and federal authorities.
