The Georgia Department of Corrections is closing the 250-bed Milan State Prison in Helena, according to a Wednesday announcement.
The prison will cease operations Friday and inmates will be transferred to other facilities across the state, according to a news release.
The prison’s 55 employees are being offered positions within the Department of Corrections, according to the release.
Work details and fire services provided by inmates at the prison will continue through reassignment to other facilities. Plans for the facility have not been released, according to the release.
