Agents from the GBI and FBI on Thursday searched the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office and the county jail as part of an investigation into “alleged financial improprieties,” said Oconee Circuit District Attorney Tim Vaughn.
Agents also searched Sheriff Jim Williamson’s home in Milan, Vaughn said. No one was arrested, he said.
The investigation comes just months before Williamson leaves office. The sheriff finishes his second term in December, and the county has a two-term limit.
Vaughn said he was not sure how long Williamson had been under investigation. “This part’s been going on since about a week or 10 days ago,” he said.

Williamson could not be reached for comment. He did not return a call to his office, and no one answered a home phone listed in his name.
