A 26-year-old booked into the Houston County jail Thursday night is charged with vehicular homicide in the head-on crash that killed a Crisp County sheriff sergeant’s wife five months ago.
Donn Kelvin Smith, of Rentz, also is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, hit and run, reckless driving and an open container violation in the June 3 crash that killed Marci Thompson.
Smith was driving north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near the border of Houston and Dooly counties when his 2013 Chrysler 200 collided with Thompson’s 2016 Nissan Versa.
The Nissan overturned and landed on its roof by a guardrail in the emergency lane. Then it caught fire.
