Arrests made after Best Buy cargo stolen at Love’s truck stop on I-16

Two Atlanta area men are under arrest after they were caught allegedly taking cargo from containers at a truck stop on Interstate 16.

In a joint investigation and overnight stakeout with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, Dublin police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the men were taken into custody early Thursday morning.

Carlton Johnson, of Stockbridge, and Derrick Simmons of Forest Park, were seen taking items bound for Best Buy’s distribution center on Ga. 257 and loading them into a truck and U-haul trailer, according to a release from the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities were watching the parking lot of Love’s Travel Stop at Ga. 257 and I-16 after recent cargo thefts at that truck stop and the Friendly Gus #12 and the 257 Truck Stop.

Officers recovered a large quantity of cellphones, computers and other items.

The investigation continues. Additional charges are pending concerning possible weapons and drugs.
