As a shoplifting suspect fled the Belk store at The Galleria, her alleged accomplice hit a store worker who tried to stop them.

Just before 8 p.m. Nov. 1, a woman taking merchandise from the department store was headed for a waiting burgundy Nissan near the entrance, Centerville police Detective Christine Welch said Wednesday.

A store security officer tried to stop the thief, but the driver of the apparent getaway car got out and assaulted the employee.

“The male who pulled the car up outside got out of the vehicle and hit her in the head,” Welch said.

The pair got away with enough goods to warrant a felony charge.

Surveillance images captured photos of the couple, who are wanted on shoplifting and assault charges.

Welch urged local shoppers and residents to check the department’s Facebook page to see other suspects.

“We have several other shoplifters on there we need help, with and the majority of them are from Belk’s,” Welch said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Welch at 478-953-4222, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME or 478-742-2330.
