Byron man stabbed in dispute about music player

CENTERVILLE — Two young Byron men were involved in a dispute Sunday that led to a stabbing, according to a news release from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responding to a call near Centennial Drive and Emerald Circle in northwest Houston County found the victim, Joseph Cantrell, 18, with a stab wound in the leg. He was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia with non-life threatening injuries.

Cantrell told deputies he had been attacked by an acquaintance, Jeremy Barkley, to whom he had sold an MP3 player. Cantrell said Barkley stabbed him when he refused to take back the music player and refund Barkley his money.

Barkley, 19, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, possession of a weapon during a crime and possession of marijuana. He was being held in the Houston County Detention Center without bond Monday.
