FORT VALLEY -- A man who was sleeping in a dumpster was rescued early Friday after he was dumped inside a garbage truck and the driver heard him screaming, police said.
Brian Keith Brown, 29, escaped serious injury in the 8:26 a.m. incident.
He was treated on the scene after Fort Valley police officers and firefighters pulled him to safety. He was then taken to Medical Center of Peach County, Navicent Health.
Fort Valley Police Chief Lawrence Spurgeon credited the garbage truck driver for his quick thinking to call 911 for help.
“Without his quick reaction, this could have easily been a tragic situation,” Spurgeon said in a news release.
Brown was asleep in the dumpster at the old Wanderlodge plant on Wanderlodge Way when he was thrown in the back of the garbage truck as the container was being emptied. The driver heard his screams and saw a man, later identified as Brown, trying to climb out.
