Houston County investigators determined a 13-year-old boy shot an 11-year-old girl who was walking down his street Tuesday afternoon.
The girl, whose identity has not been released, was wounded in the lower back while she was walking with a friend down Sheffield Way in the Quail Run area, according to a news release from the Houston County Sheriff's Office.
She is in stable condition after undergoing surgery at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
The Juvenile Investigations Division of the Houston County Sheriff's Office determined the boy, who was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his house, fired a .22 magnum rifle through a front window of his house and hit the girl, the release stated.
Investigators took firearms, a cell phone and a computer from the house and are now trying to determine what motivated the shooting.
An autopsy performed Wednesday morning concluded the teen died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
