A bomb threat at the former YMCA building closed a short section of Moody Road at Ga. 96 on Thursday afternoon.
The GBI’s bomb disposal unit and a Houston County sheriff’s dog trained to detect explosives were used to search the vacant building, said Houston County sheriff’s Capt. Alan Everidge.
No bomb was found, he said.
A short section of roadway in front of the building at 2954 Moody Road was closed to traffic while authorities investigated, Everidge said. Also, some homes were evacuated in the immediate area as a precaution, he said.
The sheriff’s office, in conjunction with state and federal authorities, is investigating to determine who e-mailed the bomb threat at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday to the building’s owner.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (478) 542-2085.
