PERRY — City Council approved the acquisition of three new parcels of land Tuesday night, using two new processes for the first time.
The council first approved the takeover of two lots in the Houston Springs subdivision that had not been sold during a tax sale. City manager Lee Gilmour said the council felt the land could be better used as a neighborhood park, making it about the 20th such city park.
Council members also approved the annexation of two “islands” of land that are completely surrounded by city land. Gilmour said the state now requires a special approval, instead of an arbitrary acquisition.
The council also voted unanimously to reappoint city attorney John G. Walker. Gilmour said Walker has served in the position for more than 20 years.
