George Hartwig is scheduled to be sworn in Thursday as Houston County district attorney.
Hartwig, 51, will be sworn in at 3 p.m. by Houston County Probate Judge Janice Spires, according to a Houston County District Attorney’s Office news release.
Hartwig, a felony prosecutor for the past nine years, won the post in the Nov. 30 runoff.
His opponent, Arthur Creque, chief assistant solicitor for Houston County State Court, was the top vote-getter in the Nov. 2 special election, while Rabb Wilkerson, who was appointed to the post by the governor, came in third.

Hartwig most recently served as legal counsel for the Department of Human Services, Division of Child Support Services. He’s served for nine years as a prosecutor for the Houston County District Attorney’s Office.
He previously was in private practice in Macon, and he has a background in law enforcement.
Hartwig will serve the remainder of the unexpired term of Kelly Burke that ends Dec. 31, 2012. The state-funded post pays an annual salary of $114,500. Houston County provides an annual supplement of $6,624 to the state salary.
