Qualifying to begin next week for Sellier seat

Qualifying will begin Wednesday for the special election for the state House District 136 seat left vacant by the recent death of Rep. Tony Sellier, Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced Thursday.

Qualifying will last until noon Dec. 17.

The special election will be held Feb. 15, and a runoff, if needed, is scheduled for March 15.

Candidates will qualify in the Elections Division of the Office of the Secretary of State in Atlanta.

The qualifying fee is $400.

The special election is nonpartisan, however candidates’ party affiliation will be listed on the ballot.

District 136 encompasses Crawford County and part of Bibb, Houston, Lamar, Monroe, Peach and Upson counties.

The General Assembly reconvenes in Atlanta on Jan. 10.
