The Georgia Agricultural Exposition Authority board met Wednesday for the last time before the 21st Georgia National Fair begins Oct. 7.
“The biggest thing remaining is cutting the ribbon” at the opening ceremonies, said Executive Director Ransom Moore.
Gov. Sonny Perdue is scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the ceremony, and Gary Black, who is running for state agricultural commissioner, will sing the national anthem.
The opening concert, which will feature Chubby Checker, will start at 7:30 p.m. opening night. Tickets for the Miranda Lambert concert, which is Oct. 16, already are on sale and are expected to sell out within a week. The board also approved the placement of a Vietnam veterans memorial bench at the fairgrounds. It would be similar to a bench in downtown Macon.
