The drowning of a 2-year-old Bonaire girl has been ruled accidental, Houston County sheriff’s investigators said.
Chloe Watford was found floating unconscious in the above-ground pool Friday by her 15-year-old cousin, who was home alone watching the child while Kathy and Brian Faletto were at work, said Houston County sheriff’s Capt. Jerry Stewart. The couple was in the process of adopting the girl, who is Kathy Faletto’s niece, Stewart said.
The 15-year-old and the 2-year-old had taken a nap, and while the teenager was still sleeping, the child walked outside and climbed into the pool, said sheriff’s Sgt. K. Broom, a juvenile division investigator.
The child was taken by ambulance to Houston Medical Center, then to The Children’s Hospital at The Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, where she died Saturday night, Broom said.
An autopsy Monday showed that the cause of death was accidental drowning.
“No charges are expected at this time because of the circumstances,” Broom said. “It’s just unfortunate.”
