A woman was killed Friday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on Dunbar Road, a Houston County sheriff’s captain said.
The woman was the passenger on a motorcycle that went off the road at about 2:20 p.m., said Capt. Robert West. The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of family.
Christopher Butler, 32, the motorcycle’s driver, was taken by ambulance to The Medical Center of Central Georgia with non-life-threatening injuries, said Houston Sheriff’s Lt. M.J. Stokes.
Butler was headed west on a 2009 Honda Interceptor on Dunbar Road when he was run off the road by the driver of a mid-to-late 1990s blue Ford Taurus, according to a Houston County sheriff’s news release. The driver failed to stop at the crash site west of General Lee Road, the release said.
“Mr. Butler left the road in an attempt to avoid striking the Ford Taurus head on,” the release stated. “The motorcycle traveled through a ditch into a wood line and struck a tree.”
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the release said.
Anyone one with information about the crash is asked to call the Houston County Sheriff’s Office traffic division at (478) 542-2010.
