The 653rd Combat Logistics Support Squadron ends its 42 years of service today. Many of the squadron’s 95 airmen will transfer to the new Expeditionary Depot Maintenance Flight, which will be responsible for a similar workload as the 653rd CLSS.
The deactivation ceremony will be held at the base theater at 10 a.m. Later, alumni airmen of the 653rd Combat Logistics Support Squadron will gather for a dinner banquet at the Museum of Aviation.
The 653rd CLSS is primarily used to repair aircaft that have been severely damaged. That mission will remain with the activation of the Expeditionary Depot Maintenance Flight.
