FORT VALLEY — Work to repair the bridge over railroad tracks on State University Drive, closed for a few months, is all set. Almost.
The Peach County Commission on Tuesday approved a bid of slightly more than $138,000 from Engineered Restorations Inc. of Lawrenceville to repair the damaged structure.
“We’re all ready for the work but just need to hear from Norfolk Southern,” said Marcia Johnson, county administrator.
The railroad has to acknowledge the repairs to the bridge. Commission Chairman Martin Moseley Jr. said he’s hoping to have to repairs completed by the time the new school year — and new football season — start at Fort Valley State University.

The bridge was closed late in December due to erosion damaging some of the pilings supporting the structure. Traffic has been rerouted to University Boulevard bypass until repairs are completed.
