Man sentenced for DVD piracy

PERRY — A Warner Robins man was sentenced to up to one year in prison Wednesday after a Houston County jury convicted him of movie and music piracy.

Christopher Allen Benton-el, 48, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Edward D. Lukemire, said Houston County Chief Assistant District Attorney Jason Ashford.

The one-day trial ended Tuesday, with the jury reaching a verdict Wednesday afternoon. The 22 counterfeit DVDs and one CD were confiscated from his Cliff Howard Drive home and from his booth at the International City Flea Market in Warner Robins in December 2007.

Benton-el had a “substantial criminal enterprise” in which he amassed cash by failing to pay license fees and royalties on the counterfeit material, Ashford said.
