Crash shuts down Ga. 96, one taken to Macon hospital by helicopter

Traffic was being diverted around Ga. 96 and Ga. 247 in Houston County after a crash involving a wrecker truck and a passenger car late afternoon Thursday.

Houston County Patrol Capt. Ronnie Harlowe said one person was taken by helicopter to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, after the 4:15 p.m. wreck.

About 1 1/2 mile of Ga. 96, between Ga. 247 and Sandy Run Road, was still closed to traffic about 5:30 p.m.

Harlowe encouraged drivers to avoid the area.
